Spherix History
Biospherics Research was founded in 1967 as a small scientific research and environmental engineering firm, developing patents for sewage treatment and other processes. To help fund the operation, a proposal was submitted in 1968 that won a contract with the National Institute of Mental Health to abstract scientific documents. This was the company’s entry into the information services business, and the genesis of what is now known as InfoSpherix.

The Company “went public” in 1969 as Biospherics Incorporated, issuing stock to raise money to fund its scientific activities. Biospherics won its first contact-center-type contract in 1974 to operate the Cancer Information Service for the National Cancer Institute. That project, which began by processing written inquiries and answers about cancer for patients, healthcare professionals, and the public at large, added a call center in 1976. Since then, call centers have been a major offering of the company’s information technology offerings.

In 1994 the company began its reservation services business line for public parks agencies, later named “ReserveWorld”. In 2000, the company changed its name to Spherix Incorporated, to better reflect its wider array of client offerings. The biotechnology division was renamed BioSpherix. In 2006, Spherix incorporated its information services business as InfoSpherix, a wholly owned subsidiary, to operate all of its call center and reservations contracts. InfoSpherix Incorporated was sold to the Active Network effective August 15, 2007.

Spherix is now comprised of two divisions. Our BioSpherix division is currently running a Phase 3 clinical trial to study the use of Naturlose® as a treatment for Type 2 diabetes. Our Health Sciences Consulting division provides scientific and strategic support for suppliers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers of: conventional foods, biotechnology-derived foods, medical foods, infant formulas, food ingredients, dietary supplements, food contact substances, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, consumer products and industrial chemicals and pesticides.
